Why Buying Art From Canadian Artists Matters
There’s something special about walking into a home with original art on the walls. It feels warm, personal, and connected, especially when the art was created close to home.
Choosing Canadian art isn’t just about decorating a space. It’s a meaningful way to support the creative landscape we share… to keep talent thriving here in Canada… and to bring home a piece that carries a story worth telling.
Art Created Close to Home Carries a Story
When you buy directly from a Canadian artist, you’re bringing home more than a painting, you’re bringing home a part of their journey. For me, creating colourful abstract florals has always been about joy, freedom, and expression. And it means a lot when collectors tell me my work makes them feel happy. That connection is the heart of Canadian creativity: art that feels human, heartfelt, and real.
Canada Has an Incredible Creative Community
One of the things I love most about being part of the Canadian art community is seeing the incredible work of other artists. From established names like Lori Mirabelli, Claire Desjardins, Sara Purves, Callie Gray, and Marion Evamy, to wonderful Canadian artists you may not have discovered yet, including Sheri East, Jeff Heane, Michele Smeulders, Sabrina Lindsay, Michelle Nyberg, Andrew Lewis, and Craig Guthrie, Canada is full of vibrant creative voices worth exploring.
Supporting Canadian art means supporting all of these voices.
And that’s something truly meaningful.
Your Purchase Supports More Than a Painting
Buying Canadian art helps:
-
- strengthen the local economy
- keep creative careers thriving
- encourage future artists
- bring real, human stories into your home
- build a more vibrant cultural landscape
As an artist, I’ve been honoured to be part of these events in my city London Ontario and beyond:
- The London Artists’ Studio Tour (2025 & 2026)
- Featured on our local TV cable network program The Paint Box with artist host Jane Roy
- A group show with 2 artists Michele Smeulders and Miriam Traher at TAP Centre for Creativity
- The Westland Gallery Square Foot Show (3 years)
- Representation in three Canadian galleries in Collingwood ON, Stratford ON and Edmonton AB
Each experience reminds me how much Canadians love supporting artists in their own communities.
Canadian Art Makes Your Home Feel More Like You
Whether your home is neutral, colourful, minimal, or eclectic, original art adds a layer of story and personality that mass-produced décor can’t match.
There’s something special about knowing exactly where a piece came from — who created it, what they believed in, and what inspired it.
When someone buys one of my Escaping the Vase paintings, they’re not just getting bright colours and playful shapes. They’re getting a piece that was made with intention, emotion, and joy right here in Canada.
Thank You for Supporting Canadian Creativity
If you’ve ever purchased art from a Canadian artist, or even shared their work, visited a gallery, or recommended someone’s art to a friend, you’re helping our creative culture grow.
If you are looking for a way to see local artists in London, Ontario, the London Artists’ Studio Tour is taking place on April 24, 25, and 26 in 2026. More than thirty artists will open their studio spaces, many of them in their own homes. This tour has been running for more than three decades and it is one of the best opportunities to meet artists, see where the work is made, and support the art community in a real and personal way.
Many Canadian communities have annual art studio tours an open houses, as well as gallery shows where you can see art you will love!
